Charcoal Lane will enrich the lives of young disadvantaged Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people who participate in the training program. We need your help to make this happen. Make a real difference by contributing to the program.

How you can help:

1. Dine at Charcoal Lane
As all proceeds from Charcoal Lane are utilised to support the continued development of the restaurant everyone who dines contributes to our growth.

2. Functions and Catering
Show your support for Charcoal Lane by holding your next corporate event or business meeting at the restaurant.   All proceeds benefit the continued development of our training programs.

Functions & Catering

Today young Australians face many challenges. Nearly 40% of unemployed people are aged 15-24 years* and 43% of homeless Australians are under 25 years old**. For Indigenous young people the unemployment rate is double that of their non-Indigenous peers.^ Mission Australia believes all young people should have the opportunity to successfully move through their adolescent years and into adulthood, well prepared for life ahead. In July 2009 we launched Charcoal Lane in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, providing traineeships and apprenticeships to Aboriginal and disadvantaged young people.

As a high quality restaurant, Charcoal Lane provides the best work experience, hospitality training and supportive environment to enable Aboriginal and disadvantaged young people to transition to mainstream employment. Charcoal Lane aims to transform the lives of young people by providing them with supported training and employment opportunities in a real work environment. Participants involved in the Charcoal Lane program are supported and encouraged to achieve their life goals through the power of education, training and working together as a team. In partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, William Angliss Institute and Apprenticeships Plus, Charcoal Lane offers an integrated program that includes personal skills development and accredited education in hospitality, with the aim of enabling a successful transition to sustainable mainstream employment.

Partners contribute to the appointment of participants who undertake training at Charcoal Lane. $15,000 will transform the life of one young Australian.

Partner support assists Charcoal Lane in providing specialised health and wellbeing referrals and consultations, contributes to the cost of support staff such as the Program Coordinator, youth workers and professional staff and also assists in providing facilities, equipment and learning experiences.

Benefits include in-restaurant recognition and access to a range of
dining privileges.
